Hiiii , guys! It's been awhile. Sorry about that! Things get hectic this time of year, you know how it goes! I plan to write more regularly in 2017 so I sure do hope you'll come back to check in from time to time!
This year, I didn't pull out all the traditional Christmas decor like we have in the past. Instead, I focused more on adding fresh greens to our home, disco balls, and touches of fur.
It's is also the first year, in my entire life, that I didn't have a real tree. See, I found this big, huge, gorgeous white tree on clearance last year. It was the LAST one and 90% off. I felt like it was a sign that I had to have it, blah, blah, blah. So we grabbed it. I had always drooled over the white trees I saw in magazines & I figured I'd give it a try. BAD IDEA.
First of all, it had us all choking on the fake snow that came off of it when we opened it up...for two days. You could see it hanging out in the air when the sunlight hit it. Ha! Such a wreck. Then I had a hard time decorating it. I found these huge disco ball ornaments that I thought would be perfect for it but they turned out to be way too glam for the look I was going for. I eventually took off all the disco balls, stuffed some faux magnolia leaves in it and a bunch of eucalyptus branches. Yes, I was totally trying to make it as green as I could ! Lesson learned I guess. Next year we will definitely be getting a real tree. Plus, I kind of missed the whole tree purchasing, kids crying because it's cold, mom and dad fighting over how to hold it and straighten it in the stand correctly, ordeal.
We've always let our kids have their own mini trees, where they can display all the special ornaments they've acquired over the years. It's also a great way for Mama to have her tree looking just how I want it (minus the fact that it's freakin' white!) without the kids feeling slighted.
took that inexpensive tassel garland you can always find in the party section and wrapped it around one of their little trees.
And then I went pretty minimal in the living room. Just some fresh greens and a disco ball.
nd the wooden tree garland I found at Target.
owever you've decided to do your holiday decorating this year, I hope it gives you all the feels! From me to you, Merry Christmas and happy new year !
